FIFTY-SIX
Jonah and I were still on the rocky road. Not really bad, we didnât have an argument since he paid my rent without talking to me first. Mostly, it was either these fake ass dinners I had to be his arm candy with a client, or the late nights and weekends he had to work. It wasnât much of a big deal to me because I knew that came with the territory and whenever he had free time, he would make it up to me. It wasnât much free time because he was making a whole lot more money and doing a lot more deals. So much, he had to leave the pro bono cases alone and I think that what made him more upset. Well beside two-thirds of his client base was clients he had to fix from damage control because of Asher. He was doing it big and it wasnât like he was going solo for the ride. He shared the workload with his friend Jasper. And for Christmas, to celebrate, Andrew found Jasper and Catalina a nice two bedroom apartment in old city near the waterfront. It was a commute for Catalina but she didnât mind because the neighborhood was a lot nicer than where she already lived at. Jonah asked me to pretend that Iâm a kid again and write everything I wanted for Christmas on a list for he wouldnât make a mistake, even though, he started to shop for me before I can even get a list started. I was surprised that he didnât propose to me, but I guess he sensed my nervousness whenever he would bring up certain conversations like kids, or moving into another place, or something that would make us get to that ten yard line. That had caused a lot of arguments in my circle of friends.
Now it was New Years Eve and I did not want to go out because that is when the drunks come out to party. Unfortunately, I wanted to spend it with Jonah, but I couldnât because he had to go to a club that his boss had asked him to go to. I was going to say yes because Catalina was going and at least I would have some company, but I needed a break from all of the bullshit. I was disappointed that Jonah wasnât going to be able to stay with me, but I understood.
I was just lounging around watching television until I got a picture text and I see Jonah with some blonde bitch. I saw the time stamp and it showed that she was with him at the party. Another picture came around and showed that they had a kiss. A little kiss on the cheek, but still a kiss. I have met all of Jonahâs friends and this bitch snaked into his life and Jonah kept her from me. I wanted to know why. My heart said itâs innocent. Jonah would never do that to you. And once it said that, I was going to confront him once he got home from the party.
